Sometimes even the most basic things are good to remember, especially when there’s a colossal storm bearing down on you.
Jesus is speaking: “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house, and it fell—and great was its fall.” Matthew 7:24-27
It really struck me today, based on these verses that we need to remember that Christian or not, the rain will fall, the floods will come, and the winds will blow and slam against us. The difference between a true Christian and an unbeliever is the result of those things. The results will be completely different depending on your foundation. The one whose life is built on the truth of Jesus will stand and not fall, regardless of the storms and trials. On the other hand, the one whose foundation is built on the shifting sand of this world-the philosophy and mindset of the here and now- will ALWAYS FALL. There is nothing of substance underneath to hold them up.
Let’s base our lives on the truth of God’s Word. When we hear the truth, let’s build our lives on that rock- all other ground is sinking sand.
I’m praying for those who are in the path of hurricane Irma right now. I’m also praying that the spiritual “Irma’s” in your life will be met with unwavering faith that will keep your feet firmly planted on the rock of Jesus Christ.
Shalom to all of your storms.
